The quick version, in plain words. A lawyer will tidy it up later; what it promises stays.

Our own AI, the owl

The owl is our local AI. It runs on our own machine, the coop, and nowhere else. It collects and stores the sentence our agent produced from each thought you post on the open stage, with its rating, and anything you say to the owl directly.

It keeps a journal

At night the owl reads the day and learns from it: it writes a few short notes in its journal about what you like to talk about, and what the whole site is talking about. It uses those notes, long term, to be a better help to you. Once the notes are written the day’s record is deleted, and after 7 days at the latest.

It never notes thoughts from someone in difficulty or thoughts in members-only rooms, and it is told never to write down your health, beliefs, politics, sexuality, ethnicity, where you are or who you are. A site trend needs at least three different people, so a trend is never about one person.

That data stays here

The owl’s notes and the day’s record stay on our machine. They are never sent to any outside service, never sold and never shared.

Everything else is in your pod

Your thoughts as you wrote them, your pictures and your settings live in your own pod, which you own. You can read, change or delete them there at any time. What we keep beside them is only an index, so the feed can show your thoughts.

We use agents, local and available worldwide, to produce the concise sentence. These services store data for a period of time for safety, should a naughty person 😈 try to do naughty things, and so they should, bloody naughty peeps all over the web.

Seeing and deleting it

Account shows what we hold about you, the owl’s notes included, and lets you delete it. Closing your account deletes the owl’s notes about you.

Your pod provider

Your pod is kept by the provider you chose when you made it, under their own privacy policy. If you use Inrupt PodSpaces, that is Inrupt’s privacy policy:
